Businessman/Public Speaker/Author David Weill Pens Inspirational Family Memoir
WordCrafts Press and author David Weill are pleased to announce this summer’s release of his poignant, autobiographical memoir Deployed with my Mother. This unique account of the author’s tour of duty in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm in the same MASH unit as his mother is guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows and warm a lot of hearts.
In 1988 an Army recruiter encouraged David Weill to sign up for his local National Guard Unit. One weekend a month, two weeks in the summer, extra money now, and benefits toward college; what’s not to like?
Weill went home and talked it over with his mother. It was a short conversation.
“Hey, Mom. Do you think I should join the Army?”
“No.”
But David had a money mindset and a patriotic streak. He figured he could serve his country and get paid to do it. Not only did he sign up, he talked his mother, a nurse, into signing up too.
Then Desert Storm hit the fan, and stuff began to get real.
“There’s an old say that has inspired me over the years,” Weill says. “No good sea captain was made on calm seas. I wrote Deployed with my Mother for anyone that has ever had anything in life not go according to plan! I wanted to share some of the choppy waters that I have been through, and to tell folks how God has brought me through them. I hope my story will encourage others to examine their own stories and recognize how God has been at work even in the hardest of time.”
Weill recalls wanting to write his story for nearly thirty years, but other life adventures always got in the way. A chance encounter with author Tammy Chandler brought the story front and center again, and the two collaborated to bring Deployed with my Mother to print.
“Having served in the U.S. Army,” said WordCrafts Press publisher, Mike Parker, “I’ve often declared the difference between a fairy tale and a war story is, a fairy tale starts out “Once upon a time…” while a war story starts out, “You ain’t gonna believe this, but there I was.” David’s book certainly hooks you with its There I was element. But what is so inspiring is that the story is true! You can’t make this stuff up.”
