Author and Bible teacher Beverly ND Clopton is pleased to unveil her latest book, Rigors of the Call, which released to retail on May 29, 2020 from WordCrafts Press.

Standing in stark contrast to the so-called name-it-and-claim-it prosperity teachings that have been prevalent in North American Christian circles for much of the 21st century, Rigors of the Call boldly declares that actually walking out the Christian life is anything but easy.

“Jesus’ call to discipleship is not for the fainthearted,” Clopton insists. “The 2.2 billion people around the world who identify themselves as Christians sooner or later come to the realization that it is easier to accept His call than it is live it.”

Clopton’s message is already hitting home with readers as her new book is impacting multiple Amazon.com Hot New Releases charts, debuting at #12 in the online retailer’s Devotional category, #20 in Christian Devotional Books, and at #21 in Christian Discipleship.

In Rigors of the Call, Clopton builds on G.K. Chesterton’s classic observation that “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.”

“As believers, we love to claim Jesus’ profound promise, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Clopton continues. “Abundant Life! Who wouldn’t sign up for that? The problem is, the same Jesus that offers abundant life also guaranteed that in this life we will have tribulation, an old-world term that means not just “trouble” but “great trouble and suffering.” Sometimes it is difficult to reconcile these two seemingly disparate concepts. Great trouble and suffering don’t exactly equal abundant life… at least not to the 21st century mind.”

Clopton points out that Jesus himself went to the cross in obedience to His Father’s will. And scripture states He did it “for the joy that was set before him.”

“Perhaps it’s time we revisit what the call to follow Christ really means,” she muses.

“I wrote this book for these believers and those thinking of becoming one of them,” Clopton says. “I wanted to expose the rigor inherent in the decision to be the people of God who follow Jesus. I believe if people understand the journey though hard is manageable (by God’s grace), they will decide the rigor is worth enduring to achieve the goal of faith: eternity with the Savior.”
