Author IMagines a future world eerily reflective of current events

Award winning, multi-genre novelist Marian Rizzo and WordCrafts Press are thrilled to announce her latest novel, Time Capsule, which is now available in hardback, trade paperback, audiobook, and all major ebook formats. Set in the not too distant future of 2058, Rizzo imagines a world that is eerily reflective of current events; one that could easily evolve if the tenuous balance of power slips to one side or the other, with America falling to the joint power of Russia and China, where survival of the few is only guaranteed in advanced, carefully constructed Time Capsules. But are those structures really arks of survival, or something far more ominous?

Unlike the majority of people who were thrilled to be chosen to inhabit the nearest Time Capsule,17-year-old Olivia Jackson dreads the experience. Even as advancing foreign armies march inexorably nearer, she would much prefer remaining with her rebel boyfriend Zaq than to accompany her family into the underground bunker.

April 23, 2058

A distant explosion woke me from a sound sleep. I untangled my legs from my quilt and managed to slide out of bed. Another distant rumble drew me to the window. The horizon lit up with a flash. Next came another rumble, kind of the way thunder follows a lightning strike.

I knew the truth. It wasn’t a storm at all, but military drones setting off electrical discharges several miles away. We hadn’t expected our neighborhood to get targeted until next weekend.

Another flash—closer—told me they were already near our doorstep. Weeks ago we’d received the warning.

The new regime was annihilating everything that had been built by the old administration. The Chinese wanted to rebuild America using their own materials and design specifications.

They had done what they always wanted to do. They had taken over America.

“For this novel I had to step out of my comfort zone and enter an unfamiliar world,” says author Marian Rizzo. “Instead of relying on the usual contemporary or biblical era backdrops as I did with my previous novels, I had to kick my imagination into a technologically advanced future. Fortunately, during my research, I was able to tap into the minds of several young people. The result? I had a lot of fun creating a dystopian work of fiction that I hope will appeal to young adults and maybe their forward-thinking parents and grandparents as well. To my readers: Enjoy the ride!”

“There is a reason Marian Rizzo was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in the field of journalism,” said WordCrafts Press publisher, Mike Parker. “Her writing is crisp, fluid, and taut, with enough details for readers to effortlessly step into this apocalyptic world without getting bogged down by extraneous fluff. Her characters, particularly her young heroine Olivia Jackson, are fully fleshed out, giving readers ample opportunity to cheer her on her quest even as she battles both the impending dread of the claustrophobic Time Capsule, and the unthinkable possibility of traitors among its inhabitants.”
