About THE SHEEP DETECTIVES

In this witty, new breed of mystery, George (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who reads detective novels to his beloved sheep every night, assuming they can’t possibly understand. But when a mysterious incident disrupts life on the farm, the sheep realize they must become the detectives. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers.

Award-winning actor Hugh Jackman—celebrated for his work across film, theater, and music—recently participated in a press conference for this delightful family, mystery, comedy, where he spoke about his being approached with the script for THE SHEEP DETECTIVES, his character George, and his thoughts on the completed project.

Moderator: On being approached with Craig Mason’s script.

Hugh Jackman: When I first was sent the script, I was told this is going to be something like you’ve never read before. It’s Babe, meets Knives Out.

And I was like, yep; I’ve never read anything or seen anything like that before. And I just loved it. I just loved the heart of it. I thought, “Oh, this is a movie about growing up in all its forms.”

And it’s about sometimes the difficult truths or the scary things in life that are hard to face. And I just thought it was so beautiful, and then when I saw the film, it was so relieving to me. Because it doesn’t always work out this way.

But I just loved it. And I cried I laughed and I just thought, “Oh, this is an awesome film that I want to see as a 57-year-old, or I would take my kids to see or look as no, there’s no spoiler than that, anyone to see because it’s really I think beautiful. So yes, I’m so proud of it.”

Moderator: Hugh, you play George, the shepherd of this flock. What was the key to him? What do you like about George?

Hugh Jackman: My favorite thing is he does not have a cell phone that goes off at inappropriate times. Basically, he loves being a shepherd, and his life is dedicated to the sheep. And he understands them a lot better than he understands humans.

Moderator: What were your thoughts on seeing the completed project?

Hugh Jackman: Oh, this is an awesome film that I want to see as a 57-year-old, or I would take my kids to see. It really is beautiful. So yes, I’m so proud of it.”

This is a movie about growing up and all the fun of it and also the difficulty of it. And about into your own who you are, like, every character really has that arc of finding out who they really are. And who they can be, and I think it’s really like firming and hopefully people walk out with a smile on their face.
