Riding in the backseat of the family car can be an adventure when your best friend, Hedidit, comes along for the ride

Like most little boys, Matthew is curious, inquisitive, and always into something. His faithful companion, Hedidit, encourages Matthew’s imagination… and helps take the blame when things don’t go according to plan.

For Matthew and his faithful companion, Hedidit, even riding in the backseat of the family car is an adventure!

The delightfully whimsical children’s picture book, Backseat Heroes, written by Michael Hendrickson and illustrated by Sarah Sents Cook, is the second volume in The Adventures of Mighty Matt & Hedidit. The new adventure released nationally in both hardback and paperback on May 1, 2024 from WordCrafts Press.

“Mighty Matt and Hedidit is basically a buddy story, based from the imagination of two of my sons,” explains author Michael Hendrickson. “Although my son Matthew had a brother, he created an imaginary friend. That friend drove his real brother crazy with having to have a seat at the table, talking to him as if he was real, including him in playtime, etc. I based Hedidit after Matthew’s brother. They were always around each other and whenever either got into some kind of mischief, the answer was often the same; He did it.”

“Childrens picture books is one tough genre to work in,” says WordCrafts Press publisher, Mike Parker. “But author Michael Hendrickson is a natural storyteller with a knack for creating engaging characters that children love and parents can relate to. And the whimsical illustrations by Sarah Sents Cook add to the charm. I think kids and their parents will both be enchanted.”

“Time passes too quickly to miss the best things in life, like the car ride to visit grandparents and the adventures your kids might have in the backseat along the way,” Hendrickson muses. “I hope The Adventures of Mighty Matt & Hedidit: Backseat Heroes encourages the imagination of younger kids, and that older kids and parents alike will try to see things through the eyes of a child. The message of the book is that friends always have each other’s back. Whether stuffed or real, kids need someone they can depend on, someone who is always there for them, and someone who will answer the cry for help, even if that cry is Hedidit!
