The Bible miniseries is not a word-for-word retelling of Scripture; it is an adaptation. Just like epic biblical movies like The Ten Commandments, Samson and Delilah, Ben Hur, The Robe, or The Greatest Story Ever Told, details were added to breathe life into the stories. Downey and Burkett are both passionate believers; they spent time during a press screening to explain that, while they hoped believers would watch it, part of the reason behind this series is for those people who are not familiar with the Bible. “Just think about all the people who don’t know the Bible,” said Downey. “We pray they will become interested in God’s Word.”
