A Must Read…THE FILM BUFF’S BUCKET LIST: The 50 Movies of the 2000s to See Before You Die
Being a film reviewer myself—I’m not a film critic, as I don’t claim that title—I know personally that, where you get three entertainment reviewers together, especially at film junkets, there will be five differing opinions. While there are certain criteria in a film that cannot be overlooked—story, characters, acting, production value—in the end, I realize that it all comes down to taste.
Which is why I opened Chris Stuckmann’s book, THE FILM BUFF’S BUCKET LIST: The 50 Movies of the 2000s to See Before You Die, with a bit of cynicism.
However, after reading the ‘Introduction,’ about how Stuckmann became one of the most popular movie reviewers on YouTube without any professional training, I confess I was intrigued. I ended up reading the book in an afternoon and can, without hesitation, encourage film lovers to read this book.
Theaters around the world are dominated by comic book heroes, ice princesses, apocalyptic love-struck teens, and whatever masterpiece Pixar is rolling out. It’s clear that cinema is as healthy as ever. Oscar-worthy directors, indie geniuses and foreign artists are creating stunning, boundary-pushing work. Since the turn of the century, movie lovers have been enjoying a second golden age. But which films are the best of the best? What are the top movies since 2000 to see before you die? Chris Stuckmann, one of YouTube’s most popular film reviewers (70+ million views) gives us his best of the best! In his book debut, Stuckmann delivers his list of the very best 50 Movies since 2000 – with that style and punch that YouTube viewers have come to love. These are the films you must see before you die.
Stuckmann lists the 50 movies from the last fifteen years that he claims every movie goer should see. Each movie includes a brief synopsis, some ‘quick facts’ and his explanation of why this should be on your bucket list. I agreed with him on most of the films on the list, including “Signs “Pirates of the Caribbean; Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” There were a few I didn’t agree with and some I haven’t seen, but which are now on my to-see list.
At the back of the book Stuckmann created a check-off list of all the movies mentioned, along with 5 blank stars so readers can rate the movies themselves.
As summer—which is a huge movie season—is just beginning, the question, “What movie do you want to watch?” will be frequently heard. Rather than waste precious pop-corn eating time tossing titles back and forth, I recommend getting a copy of Chris Stuckmann’s, THE FILM BUFF’S BUCKET LIST: The 50 Movies of the 2000s to See Before You Die, and working through the list.
