Erica Lane’s A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS is a Perfect Vocal Gift
Erica Lane is a singer like few others. Listening to her rich and evocative voice is like being wrapped in a vocal blanket, which leaves listeners feeling secure and warm. Classically-trained, the singer/songwriter has mastered the art of fusing contemporary pop with sweeping ballads and romantic orchestral impressions. Listening to her Christmas album, A Merry Little Christmas is like getting to open a gift early.
The six-song EP begins with the traditional Silent Night, which opens with a soaring orchestral overture. It then jumps into a pair of holiday tunes with a Big Band sound, Sleigh Bells and Jingle Bells. These would be perfect to listen to while baking or wrapping presents.
Yet Erica doesn’t merely use her gift as a musical Snuggie. She writes and performs songs that have deep and moving messages. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is one of them. She enriched this traditional song, with its melancholy tune, with a unique lyrical tweaking. The radio single, Angles in the Snow, originally appeared on the soundtrack for the 2010 feature film, A Christmas Snow, is dedicated to those who have lost a loved one. Some might consider this a tear-jerking ploy, but let’s be honest; holidays are heart-wrenchingly hard for anyone who has experienced loss. Having an opportunity to remember and grieve when everyone is hanging tinsel is a welcomed relief.
“I originally wrote ‘Angels In The Snow’ for a movie called A Christmas Snow, but it has evolved into much more than a song for film,” says Lane. “People approach me every time I sing it and share their memories and stories of lost loved ones, relating themselves to the message of the song.”
Saved Tonight paintes a tender vocal picture of that most holy night, when Christ was born. It is a perfect ending to A Merry Little Christmas
